What if everyone in South Dakota read the same book? SDHC invites all South Dakota reading groups and organizations to partner with us to bring the "One Book South Dakota" program to all citizens. "One Book" is an excellent opportunity for reading groups to gather together for a state-wide event.

The "One Book" concept has grown in popularity across the country for the past five years. It started in Seattle, where the Washington Center for the Book and the Seattle Public Library introduced it. Similar programs have emerged in towns, cities, communities, and states throughout the country.

The Whistling Season by Ivan Doig was selected for "One Book South Dakota" in 2007. The author will be at the Fifth Annual Festival of Books, Sept. 28-30, 2007 in Deadwood. Readers will have several opportunities to listen to him share thoughts about the writing and publishing of this book.

Sign up your group today! First, if you would like, you may select a discussion leader. A stipend and travel expenses will be paid directly to the chosen scholar. CLICK HERE TO SEE A LIST OF ONE BOOK SCHOLARS and contact them to schedule your discussion.

Complete the linked application form and submit it to SDHC. Please send a $25 processing fee one month before your first scheduled program. Participating groups will receive promotional materials for "One Book South Dakota" and a set of books to circulate to readers at least three weeks prior to your first session. The organization will be responsible to return all books to the Council or purchase the unreturned books.
