One Book South Dakota 2008
About the Program
What if everyone in South Dakota read the same book? SDHC invites libraries, schools, book clubs, civic organizations and corporations across the state to join in the
Sixth Annual One Book South Dakota project. Designed to stimulate discussion and generate ideas, the program begins in June and runs through the end of the year.
Louise Erdrich’s 2003 novel The Master Butchers Singing Club has been selected as the book for 2008. The capstone event of the program is an author appearance at the Sixth Annual
South Dakota Festival of Books set for September 26-28 in Sioux Falls.
About the Author
Erdrich has written a dozen novels, many of which are bestsellers. Her book Love Medicine won the National Book Critics Circle Award. She has also been a finalist for the National Book
Award with The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse. Erdrich, who grew up in North Dakota and is a mixed blood enrolled in the Turtle Mountain Band of Ojibwe,
currently lives in Minnesota and owns Birchbark Books, a small independent bookstore.
