What is the Festival of Books?
The best way to answer that is by attending the Festival! It is a unique, literary event. One can choose from a different activity each
hour. Participants have the chance to hear from some of the faces behind the words they read. Visit the "2007 Presenter" section of this
website for a complete listing of presenters and a list of their recent books. If you are still a little skeptical, tune into "Food for
Thought" on SD Public Radio on the first and third Friday of each month to hear authors discussing their work. Or, you could always tune
into C-SPAN 2 on the weekend for BookTV, oftentimes, they are airing events that take place at book festivals across the country.
How much are tickets to the Festival?
The Festival of Books is a FREE event, thanks to the wonderful sponsors. There is no charge to attend Festival events, with the exception of
events where food is being served. The Literary Feast will require tickets that will sell for $20/ticket. That includes a full-course meal and
entertainment for the evening.
How can I buy books by the presenting authors?
A number of book sellers will be selling books at exhibitor's hall (Deadwood Pavilion) on Friday from Noon-8 PM and from 9 AM to 8 PM
on Saturday. Between all of the book sellers on hand, each author will have at least one book for sale.
How can I meet my favorite author and get them to sign my book?
The best time to meet authors is during the book signing times, which are Friday afternoon (2-4 PM tenative) and Saturday at noon. At this time,
authors will be at tables set up throughout the main Festival venues will be available to sign books.
Where is the Festival of Books?
This year, the Festival of Books is in Deadwood. The Franklin and the Holiday Inn Express are the hotels closest to the Festival events.
It is a good idea to start at the Deadwood Pavilion as the information booth will be there. Other venues include the Silverado, Lead-
Deadwood Elementary School and the Masonic Temple. The Black Hills Storytellers will hold their event on Saturday at 10 PM
at the Adams Museum and all of the events on Sunday will take place at Tatanka: Story of the Bison (weather permitting). The
Literary Feast will be at the Golden Hills Resort in Lead.
Do I have to register for the Festival?
No, there is no pre-registration necessary for most events. The only event that requires pre-registration is the Literary Feast, with
pre-registering consisting of purchasing a ticket. Also, we ask that people call the Adams Museum at 605-578-3724 to reserve a
spot for the storytelling. Space is limited to the first 40 who register. There is no cost to attend, but seating will go first to those who
have called ahead. When you are at the Festival, we ask that you sign the guestbook, located in Exhibitor's Hall for us to get an
accurate count and an idea of where people are coming from who attend the Festival.
Those interested in winning a free book may complete a short evaluation form after attending a few sessions. You name will be entered
in a drawing for free books that will take place every half hour.
