    Council Seeks New Members
The South Dakota Humanities Council is currently seeking new members to serve on the statewide Council. SDHC seeks dedicated, energetic and imaginative members who show an appreciation of the humanities, a willingness to tell others about SDHC and a commitment to South Dakota culture.

Those interested in serving on the Council must be willing to meet a set of expectations, including: prepare for and participate in Board and committee meetings, disclose any conflicts of interest and educate others about the Council’s work.

Members of the 18-person Council are elected to three-year terms (with the exception of four members who are appointed by the Governor), which begin July 1, 2007. The Council meets three times per calendar year to review and award grants, set policy and approve Council programs. Council members are not compensated for their work, but are reimbursed the expenses incurred when traveling to Council functions.

To request a nomination form and list of expectations for Council members, please contact the South Dakota Humanities Council at 605-688-6113 or visit their website, http://sdhc.sdstate.org. The deadline for submitting nominations is January 30, 2007. Self-nominations are accepted.
