    One Book South Dakota 2008
    The South Dakota Humanities Council is pleased to announce "One Book South Dakota" 2008. The selected text is Louise Erdrich's The Master Butchers Singing Club. SDHC invites libraries, book clubs, schools, civic organizations and corporations to be part of the One Book experience this year. MORE...

    South Dakota Festival of Books
    The Sixth Annual South Dakota Festival of Books is set for September 26-28 in downtown Sioux Falls! This event, "where readers and writers rendezvous" will offer something for everyone, and with the exception of special events, everything is free and open to the public.

    The Big Read Egypt 2008-2009
    The South Dakota Center for the Book is one of four organizations to host The Big Read Egypt. The book for this program is "The Thief and the Dogs" by Naguib Mahfouz. The Humanities Council invites South Dakota organizations to apply for programming support. We hope to bring the experience of The Big Read Egypt to communities statewide.     Between Fences
    SDHC presents the Smithsonian exhibit BETWEEN FENCES, coming to the state in September 2008. The exhibition will make stops in Vermillion (WH Over Museum, Sept. 24-Nov. 1), Pollock (Pollock Visitor and Interpretive Center, Nov. 8-Dec. 21), Brookings (SD Ag Heritage Museum, Dec. 27-Feb. 8), Chamberlain (SD Hall of Fame, Feb. 14-March 29), Sturgis (Sturgis Public Library, April 4-May 19) and Howard (Miner County Rural Life Museum, May 23-July 4).
